City Palace Museum

Our History

The City Palace Museum, Jaipur, which is overseen by the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum Trust, was established in 1959 to steward and share the tangible and intangible heritage of Jaipur with current and future generations.

The Museum’s collections connect local and regional history with the national and global, a fact supported by Jaipur’s position as a key node in networks of knowledge exchange over several centuries. While there are several artefacts belonging to the Kachhawa rulers of Amer and Jaipur that are housed in other leading museums and galleries across the globe, some of the most significant pieces of the dynasty’s history are on display and in storage at the City Palace Museum, Jaipur.

Now, as the city prepares to celebrate its 300th anniversary in 2027, the Trust is advancing to plan a strategic restoration and redevelopment, hence strengthening the foundations of the Museum and expanding its possibilities for the future.
